About the author

My first Middle East reporting trip took me to Beirut in July 1982, and I've been going back ever since. I've lived in Egypt and Lebanon, have worked with freedom fighters in Iran and Iraq, and been held hostage by Muslim terrorists in a war zone. You can read all about it in And the Rest Is History. My latest book, The Iran House, tells the unusual story of how a reporter came to help the intelligence services of his country in fighting Iranian terrorism. In other words, how I became an agent-runner and a spy. You'll also get a front-row seat to reporting trips around the world, including Talinn, Estonia, where I investigate the Russian mafiya, Gaza, Beirut, Cairo, Kuwait, Peshawar, Libya, Israel, Iraq, Israel, and more. I also reveal my role in the on-again, off-again Israeli efforts to help the Iranian opposition. My earlier book, Raising Olives in Provence, was a change of pace, a laugh-out-loud account of the south of France from someone who has gotten to know the region and its people intimately over the past twenty years. And if you really want a change of pace, check out my fiction: The Election Heist, about a fictional election in 2020, and ISIS Begins, about the persecution of Christians in Iraq.
